Individually Black explores originality and innovation as central parts of Black identity and culture, spotlighting Black creative talent across Manchester within styling, fashion design, creative writing, creative direction, hair and jewellery design. Through portraiture, collaborative styling and written contributions, the project works closely with each individual to showcase the different layers of their identities, capturing them within environments connected to their interests and personalities.
Featuring a range of multifaceted creatives, from stylists and poets to fashion designers and accessory brands, the editorial highlights the individuality, creativity and self-expression that exists within the Black creative community. By centring personal style, storytelling and collaboration, the project presents Black identity in a nuanced and expansive way, celebrating the many forms creativity can take.
