Published in Issue 9 of AfroStyle Magazine, The Gambia: A Community Of Vibrance is a photographic and written documentary project exploring community, culture and identity within The Gambia through my perspective as a young British-Gambian woman reconnecting with her roots.
Combining documentary photography with personal writing, the project captures the vibrancy of everyday Gambian life, from markets and beaches to friendships, celebrations and local traditions, highlighting the strong sense of community embedded within the culture. Through both image-making and storytelling, the work reflects on themes of belonging, rediscovery and representation, while challenging the lack of visibility surrounding Gambian culture within wider conversations around African identity and the diaspora.
